Three Chapters

Three Chapters
The writings of three theologians, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Theodoret of Cyrrhus, and Ibas of Edessa (qq.v.), accused of Nestorianism by Monophysites (qq.v.). Justinian I's (q.v.) attempt to appease the Monophysites, including an edict that condemned these theologians, produced a chain of events that brought Pope Vigilius to Constantinople (qq.v.) under duress and concluded with the Fifth Ecumenical Council at Constantinople (qq.v.) in 553.
